Recon Robotics and the Recon Scout Throwbot used in the search and capture of Bin Laden.

Developed by US firm Recon Robotics, the Navy Seals bought the remote control Recon Scout IR robots in 2009. Around the size of a beer can, the robot is equipped with an infra red camera to see in the dark and a wireless transmitter to beam video back to the operator’s handset. Recon Robotics has sought to commercialise the design, offering it to police forces. More recently it has developed a magnetic version in collaboration with the US Navy that can stick to the side of a ship and climb aboard.

XTEK is the Australian representative for Recon Robotics and the Recon Scout Throwbot. The Recon Scout IR is designed and engineered to give you some answers. It is the world’s first throwable, mobile, tactical reconnaissance robot that can see in complete darkness. Its infrared optics automatically turn on when the ambient light is low, and immediately begin transmitting clear video to your hand-held operator control unit (OCU) and nearby command post. Throw it into any dangerous or hostile environment – day or night – and you’ll get real-time information that will save lives, reduce damage to property, and help resolve the situation more quickly.
